Building the Chorus of Ancient Greek Tragedy |
25-31.08.2019
18th Theatre Camp, Agios Ioannis, Pelion, Greece, Hellenic Theatre/Drama Education Network
This workshop aimed to raise questions and propose pathways for approaching the existence of the Chorus in Ancient Greek Tragedy and its interaction with the Hero. How can different personalities, speeds, codes, and references create a shared language? Can a silent network of communication be developed between different realities—one strong enough to generate an autonomous and self-sufficient space-time, like that of the Chorus in Ancient Greek Tragedy?
The use of walking, various patterns based on forms of traditional dances and songs, and the articulation and comprehension of speech through its fragmentation and recomposition were among the tools explored, serving as signposts along the journey toward building a continuous flow, which is what the Chorus represents.
